Position Overview

The role of the candidate will be pivotal in broadening Rystad's influence within the oil & gas sector, focusing on establishing new connections primarily with upstream operators and service firms in Canada. The ideal candidate will possess outstanding skills in generating new business opportunities and have a strong background in solution-oriented sales. As a vital member of the sales team, the individual will benefit from the backing of our global client-facing research analysts and product experts.

The primary sectors of engagement will include companies within the Oil & Gas industry, such as Exploration & Production firms, Oilfield Service companies, and midstream/infrastructure organizations. Candidates should demonstrate robust negotiation capabilities, a deep understanding of the global upstream market, and experience in selling services through a consultative approach. The role requires proficiency in product demonstrations and excellent networking skills, particularly at the executive level. National travel will be necessary, with occasional international assignments.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop a comprehensive pipeline of prospective companies.
  2. Collaborate with the Marketing team to create and execute an outreach strategy.
  3. Deliver presentations about the company, our research, and services through in-person meetings and virtual conferences.
  4. Identify and understand the unique needs of various client types to formulate effective value propositions.
  5. Expand brand recognition by networking at industry events.
  6. Utilize the company's CRM system to manage client interactions.
  7. Maintain communication with research, sales colleagues, and management regarding activities and outcomes.
  8. Provide insights and recommendations for product improvements and new offerings.
  9. Ensure proper onboarding of new clients.
  10. Engage in activities that align with achieving annual sales targets.
  11. Conduct basic interactions with external local accounting and legal advisors.

Qualifications & Skills

  1. 3-7 years of experience in acquiring new clients within the energy sector, market intelligence, or related fields.
  2. A graduate degree is required; a postgraduate degree is preferred.
  3. Experience negotiating with procurement and senior management.
  4. Preferred experience in selling research databases or consulting services.
  5. Desirable experience in selling subscription-based services.
  6. Familiarity with pipeline management best practices and new business development techniques.
  7. Experience in energy-focused data and software sales related to energy supply analysis, modeling, screening, and valuations.
  8. A self-motivated individual who can work independently and collaboratively while leveraging available resources.
  9. Ability to create value propositions tailored to specific personas and company types.
  10. A strong existing network and the capability to build new connections effectively.
  11. Proficient in standard Office tools and CRM systems.
  12. Expertise in sales pipeline management and accurate forecasting.
