Job Title: Education Assistant

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Education Assistant to join our team at Sangster Elementary School. As an Education Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with diverse needs, including those with autism, behavior support, and learning assistance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support students in a variety of classrooms, including those with autism, behavior support, and learning assistance.
  • Implement adapted or modified curriculum, as needed.
  • Prepare visual supports and implement low-tech communication systems.
  • Implement augmentative alternative communication systems.
  • Assist students during classroom activities.
  • Support social inclusion in the classroom and on the playground.
  • Objectively observe and record student behavior, as required.
  • Report safety, unusual behavior, and discipline concerns to the principal or designate.
Requirements:
  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
  • Education Assistant Certification or equivalent in a related field.
  • Minimum three (3) months of experience working with children.
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development.
  • Familiarity with Individual Education Plans and Individual Care Plans, an asset.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrates patience and acceptance when dealing with students.
  • Shows kindness and cares about the well-being of students.
  • Actively shows courtesy and respect to all, proactively builds healthy and trusting relationships with all.
  • Clearly articulates thoughts and ideas and shares timely and relevant information openly, honestly, and respectfully.
