Job Title: Education Assistant

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Education Assistant to join our team at Spencer Middle School.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will provide support to students with diverse needs, including those with autism, behaviour disorders, and learning disabilities. The role involves working collaboratively with teachers, inclusive education specialists, and supervisors to implement adapted and modified curriculum, as well as providing life skills training and daily living support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support students in various classrooms, including those with autism and behaviour disorders
  • Implement adapted and modified curriculum, as well as life skills training and daily living support
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, inclusive education specialists, and supervisors to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Provide physical support to students, including lifting and transferring
  • Assist with daily living tasks, such as feeding, dressing, and toileting
  • Implement daily exercise programs under the direction of an occupational therapist or physiotherapist
  • Monitor and record student behaviour, as required
  • Report safety concerns and discipline issues to the principal or designate
Requirements:
  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent
  • Education Assistant Certification or equivalent in a related field
  • Minimum three months of experience working with children
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development
  • Familiarity with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Individual Care Plans
  • Ability to implement modified and adapted curriculum
  • Basic computer skills, including email and document navigation
