Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver meals to residents based on their specific dietary needs and preferences.
  • Ensure proper portion control of food items.
  • Maintain safety standards in the assigned area, reporting any unsafe conditions or incidents to management.
  • Safely operate kitchen equipment, including monitoring and documenting temperatures of dishwashers, refrigerators, and freezers.
  • Manage the delivery of catering services to designated areas, including the collection of used dishes for cleaning.
  • Adhere to time constraints for meal service, ensuring food is maintained at appropriate serving temperatures.
  • Assist cooks in the preparation and cleaning of raw ingredients such as salads, vegetables, and fruits.
  • Clear dining areas, operate dishwashers, and clean kitchen utensils as per established procedures.
  • Support cooks with daily preparation tasks as outlined in the prep list.
  • Participate in the proper storage and labeling of food supplies, including leftovers.
  • Monitor and document food temperatures and quality, following established guidelines, including HACCP protocols.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, utensils, and personal workspaces.
  • Assist in setting up catering events, including arranging linens, equipment, and specific customer requests.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock kitchenettes as needed.
  • Attend facility meetings and participate in in-service education programs as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program that meets the standards of the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act is required.

  • Food Handlers Certification approved by the Public Health Department is mandatory.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting is required.
  • Capability to stand for extended periods is necessary.
  • Current Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS) within the last six months is needed.
  • Experience in a kitchen or food service environment is preferred.
