Job Summary

The School District #8 (Kootenay Lake) is seeking qualified candidates to work as Casual Education Assistants in the Creston area Family of Schools. As a Casual Education Assistant, you will provide specialized support for students with identified special needs, working under the direction of the Principal.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support to students with special needs, following the direction of the Principal.
  • Work effectively with students, adults, and other staff members.
  • Communicate appropriately with staff, students, and parents.
  • Be part of a collaborative team, maintaining confidentiality and a professional attitude.
  • Work with minimal supervision and be flexible in assignments.
  • May be required to dispense approved medications and sign Request for Medication Forms.
  • Training in non-violent crisis intervention will be provided.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • College of the Rockies SPEDA course or equivalent college program recognized by other School Districts in the Province.
  • Ability to work effectively with students and adults.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately with other staff members, students, and parents.
  • Ability to be part of a collaborative team, maintaining a professional attitude and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work as part of school-based planning teams.
  • Ability to be flexible and work with minimal supervision.
  • May be required to have a valid B.C. (Class 5) Driver's License.
  • Must have understanding and knowledge of safe work practices.
