About the Role

The Salvation Army is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Community Ministries Director to lead our Ministry Unit in Fernie and Cranbrook. As a key member of our management team, you will provide holistic leadership to various community-based programs and manage the business operations of the Ministry Unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and People Management
    • Provide strategic direction and oversight to the Ministry Unit's operations, including financial, administrative, IT, and property issues.
    • Lead and manage a team of staff and volunteers to achieve the Ministry Unit's goals and objectives.
    • Develop and implement effective employee relations practices to ensure a positive and productive work environment.
    • Recruit, train, and retain staff and volunteers to meet the needs of the Ministry Unit.
  • Communications, Public Relations, and Marketing
    • Represent the Salvation Army in the community, building relationships with local organizations, businesses, and stakeholders.
    • Develop and implement effective communication strategies to promote the Ministry Unit's programs and services.
    • Manage the Ministry Unit's social media presence and online platforms.
  • Finances and Administration
    • Develop and manage the Ministry Unit's budget, ensuring effective financial management and resource utilization.
    • Oversee the administration of the Ministry Unit's operations, including human resources, payroll, and benefits.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Community Services Management
    • Develop and implement effective community services programs to meet the needs of the community.
    • Manage the Ministry Unit's social services programs, including Pathway of Hope and other initiatives.
    • Collaborate with local organizations and stakeholders to achieve the Ministry Unit's goals and objectives.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Completion of a formal post-secondary program in social services, business, economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of related experience, including three years of management experience in a non-profit or related field.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive to Fernie weekly.
Preferred Skills and Capabilities
  • Familiarity with non-profit funding processes and procedures.
  • Strong communication, supervisory, and motivational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Computer and media proficiency.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
