The Senior Strategic Advisor plays a pivotal role in supporting initiatives and projects with industry and academia aimed at enhancing the adoption of groundbreaking technologies that benefit Alberta, particularly concerning the stewardship of the province's natural resources. Position Overview:
Reporting to the Executive Director, Advanced Hydrocarbons, the Senior Strategic Advisor, Advanced Hydrocarbons will concentrate on project advisory services to bolster the Clean Resources team as needed, with a particular emphasis on collaborative projects in partnership with Emissions Reduction Alberta. In addition to providing technical expertise, this position will enhance the team's capacity in commercialization competencies.
The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following:
- Oversee programs and projects for the Clean Resources team in collaboration with industry and other stakeholders to promote technology advancement. Advocate for the adoption of innovative technologies that will benefit Alberta by guiding investments into key initiatives.
- Conduct technology scanning and market intelligence, identifying trends, challenges, and opportunities. Recognize high-impact initiatives and projects based on gap analysis and identified needs. Provide recommendations for strategic and investment decisions.
- Encourage a collaborative environment among governments, ministries, universities, research organizations, industry, and stakeholders. Work alongside other technical personnel in the planning, development, and execution of all research and technology investments of the corporation. Promote AI Clean Energy programs at conferences and workshops.
- Advise, recommend, and report on the progress and outcomes of programs, projects, and initiatives within Clean Resources and Emissions Reduction Alberta as necessary.
Educational Requirements:
- Degree or Advanced Degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field; extensive work experience may be considered in lieu of formal educational credentials, if appropriate.
Experience and Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years managing research programs and projects, including engineering/scientific analysis.
- Experience in technology commercialization and intellectual property management.
- Familiarity with Alberta's social, economic, environmental, and technological priorities.
- Experience collaborating with government, post-secondary research institutions, and industry, including leading research projects and participating in joint industry initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with senior technical and management professionals from industry, environmental NGOs, and other stakeholders.
- Knowledge of relevant Government of Alberta business planning and policy frameworks.
- Experience in managing research programs and projects, along with skills in supporting the development and management of Alberta Innovates – Clean Energy activities, initiatives, and projects.
