The Engine Service Officer (ESO) plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of locomotives. As a front-line position, the ESO is responsible for training, supervising, and monitoring locomotive engineers, student locomotive engineers, and conductors on locomotive operations, train handling, and general locomotive engineer responsibilities.
Main Responsibilities- Training and Development: Provide training and coaching to locomotive engineers and conductors on locomotive operations, train handling, and safety procedures.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor and evaluate the performance of locomotive engineers and conductors, providing feedback and coaching to improve their skills and knowledge.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert on locomotive operations, train handling, and safety procedures, providing guidance and assistance to divisional officers and other stakeholders.
- Planning and Coordination: Plan and coordinate training programs, including classroom training, on-the-job training, and simulator training.
- Analysis and Reporting: Analyze and interpret locomotive event recorder data, providing recommendations for improving safety and efficiency.
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience as a qualified locomotive engineer.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certifications: Railway Employee Qualification Standards for Operating Crew Regulation (QSOC) and Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) qualification.
