Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Building Inspector to join our team at the City of Chilliwack. As a Building Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and compliance of buildings within our city.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct plan reviews and inspections to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations
  • Issue building permits and conduct inspections to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations
  • Provide information services to the public on technical, regulatory, and code requirements
  • Prepare related correspondence and reports
  • Communicate effectively with developers, contractors, and other stakeholders
Requirements
  • Grade 12 education
  • Qualification to Level 1 in accordance with the Provincial Regulations and Building Officials' Association of BC
  • Working knowledge of the BC Building Code for all Part 9 single family dwellings and ancillary buildings less than 600m2 and 3 storeys in building height
  • Valid B.C. Driver's Licence
  • Skills required to understand and apply fundamental code concepts to building design and construction
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints, and specifications
  • Ability to prepare and present technical and non-technical written and verbal reports
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position working within the Development and Regulatory Services Department's Building Division team. The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders.

Salary

The salary for this position is $44.20 Level 1; $50.32 Level II; $56.49 Level III (2024 Rates).
