About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at the Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the laboratory team in the collection, processing, and analysis of patient samples.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sample Collection and Processing: Collect blood, tissue, or other samples from patients in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to established protocols and procedures.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot medical laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance and accuracy.
  • Quality Control: Participate in quality control activities, including the processing and analysis of quality control samples, to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate with laboratory staff, healthcare professionals, and patients to ensure seamless sample collection and processing.
Requirements
  • Education: Completion of a college or CEGEP program in a related field, such as medical laboratory technology or a related science.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a medical laboratory setting is an asset, but not required.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Outlook and MEDITECH software, as well as basic computer skills.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent bending, crouching, and kneeling. Manual dexterity and attention to detail are essential.
