Position Overview:

The Technical Project Lead will report directly to the Director of Nunavut Nukkiksautiit Corporation ("NNC") and will oversee Project Development activities focused on renewable energy projects within the Qikiqtani Region. This role includes the management of 1-2 subordinate staff members.

NNC stands as Nunavut's pioneering 100% Inuit-owned renewable energy developer, headquartered in Iqaluit, NU. With a commitment to advancing various renewable energy projects, NNC is dedicated to sustainably powering the Qikiqtani Region by fostering community engagement and promoting local ownership of renewable energy initiatives. The Technical Project Lead will be instrumental in managing specific Project Development tasks for community-scale renewable energy projects across all stages of development. This role is vital in the Integrated Project Team, facilitating the delivery of Inuit-led renewable energy solutions in Nunavut.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategically plan, develop, construct, and operate renewable energy projects using effective project management techniques throughout all development phases;
  2. Provide logistical support for project activities, including environmental assessments, geotechnical studies, and local research installations;
  3. Handle administrative and reporting responsibilities, ensuring projects are completed within the designated timeline and budget;
  4. Incorporate Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles into every phase of renewable energy infrastructure development;
  5. Build and maintain strong relationships with Inuit Organizations, community groups, development partners, industry stakeholders, and government entities regarding renewable energy opportunities in the Qikiqtani Region;
  6. Prepare comprehensive technical reports on project activities for the Director of NNC;
  7. Conduct technical evaluations of project activities to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, funding requirements, and health and safety protocols;
  8. Lead and participate in travel related to project and/or company activities;
  9. Assist in the development of funding and financing proposals to secure project development resources;
  10. Supervise Project Coordinators and/or summer interns as necessary;
  11. Collaborate with the NNC Team to implement strategic business initiatives;
  12. Oversee project planning activities for newly identified projects as required;
  13. Support the Integrated Project Team with key development tasks as assigned by Project Managers.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on workload demands. The incumbent must be adaptable and responsive to changing priorities as directed by their supervisor.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Engineering, Geography, Planning, Business, or a related discipline is mandatory;
  • Technical certifications (e.g., EIT, P.Eng, CET, or CEM) are advantageous;
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in the resource development sector is preferred;
  • Demonstrated expertise in effective Project Management methodologies is beneficial;
  • Strong understanding of energy policy and regulatory frameworks for renewable energy projects in Canada is a plus.

Essential Skills:

  • Exceptional public relations skills with the ability to convey technical information professionally and courteously;
  • Outstanding oral and written communication abilities in English;
  • Fluency in Inuktitut is an asset;
  • Proven collaborative skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse teams;
  • Strong judgment and attention to detail, ensuring a high level of accuracy;
  • Independence and flexibility, coupled with a proactive approach, are essential;
  • Experience working within Inuit Nunangat is considered beneficial.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed-term contract
Contract Duration: 12 months

Compensation: Starting from $90,000.00 annually
