Role Overview

As a Health Care Specialist in Maximum and Multi-Level Security Units, you will play a vital role in providing compassionate care to individuals facing complex mental health challenges. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and nurturing therapeutic relationships with patients and their families, ensuring a supportive environment that prioritizes safety and confidentiality.
  • Assisting patients with personal care needs, including bathing, grooming, and dietary requirements, while promoting dignity and respect.
  • Executing nursing care tasks as needed, maintaining awareness of patient care plans, and effectively communicating any concerns to the nursing staff.
  • Responding promptly to alarms and emergencies, collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure patient safety and well-being.
  • Monitoring patient behavior and progress, documenting significant changes, and relaying important information to the Registered Nurse or designated personnel.
  • Utilizing specialized equipment to assist in patient mobility and transportation, adhering to safety protocols during lifting and transferring activities.

Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • A minimum of Grade 10 education, along with completion of a recognized Nursing Assistant or Care Attendant program, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals.
  • Physical capability to perform the duties required of the position.
  • Organizational skills to manage workload effectively.
  • Familiarity with relevant healthcare equipment.
  • A commitment to understanding and implementing the principles of reconciliation and cultural safety within the healthcare system.
