Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic driving instructor to join our team at Police Scotland. As a driving instructor, you will be responsible for training and assessing Police Officers and Staff in Police driving techniques, with the goal of raising their skills and ability to a higher level of competence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instruct Police Officers and Police Staff in practical driving techniques and emergency response driving, including providing practical demonstrations and teaching a uniform system of car control (based on Roadcraft Manual).
  • Assess student performance using a range of methods and evidence, writing formal student assessments and other reports, providing counselling and agreeing action plans where required.
  • Care for the daily maintenance and cleanliness of all vehicles used by the department, and transport vehicles to and from training areas and vehicle workshops as needed.
  • Assist in preparing, reviewing, and updating training materials in relation to existing or projected training courses to ensure delivery and content remains current.
  • Undertake course administration functions, including the facilitation of training programmes.

Requirements

  • Hold a full DVSA category B driving licence.
  • Have previous training and experience in Police emergency response driving instruction.
  • Be able to work from the Scottish Police College, Tulliallan, or other locations across Scotland.
  • Meet the UK medical requirements for Group 2 licence holders.
  • Be a British citizen, a member of the EU or other states in the EEA, a Commonwealth citizen, or a foreign national free of restrictions.
  • Have been resident in the UK for a minimum of three years immediately prior to application for this role.
