Medical Director

Hastings County is seeking a highly skilled Medical Director to join our team in providing quality care and services to our residents. As a Medical Director, you will play a key role in supporting the residents in our 110-bed Long-Term Care Home, working closely with the clinical leadership team to lead, implement, and evaluate the medical services provided in the home.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide leadership over the medical services provided in the home, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policies.
- Communicate effectively with Attending Physicians and Nurse Practitioners regarding policies, procedures, and responsibilities.
- Ensure appropriate on-call coverage for all residents, in accordance with the LTC on-call program.
- Advocate for interdisciplinary resident-family integrated care and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Address resident acute and chronic care needs, providing timely documentation in the home's electronic medical records system.
- Identify circumstances where palliative and/or end-of-life care may benefit residents and their families, working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team.
- Refer residents to medical consultants and/or other health practitioners as needed, participating in care conferences and communications.
- Conduct regular medication reviews and update resident health records.
- Commit to ongoing education and training in long-term care, care of the elderly, palliative care, and dementia care.
- Provide advice to the Administrator/Director of Long-Term Care on matters related to medical care and services in the home.
- Participate in long-term care home committees, including Continuous Quality Improvement, Infection Prevention & Control, and Professional Advisory.
- Medical practitioner licensed to practice medicine in Ontario, with a good standing membership in the Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
- Previous experience working in Long-Term Care as an Attending Physician or Medical Director is an asset.
- Ability to build trust with the home leadership team, interprofessional care team, and residents and their families and caregivers.
- Ability to adapt, provide coaching, facilitate change, and continually improve resident care.
