This position is part of our Good Shepherd - Reaching Home Division.
Your Impact
The ideal candidate will embody our mission by providing essential housing support services to both residential and non-residential clients. Responsibilities may include case management, crisis intervention, and supportive counseling. The successful applicant must demonstrate the ability to work independently in a challenging yet rewarding environment aligned with our values.
- Focus on housing through short-term case management, eviction prevention, supportive counseling, education, and advocacy.
- Deliver eviction prevention services to vulnerable populations, including youth, women, and families facing imminent homelessness or requiring intensive short-term support to stabilize their housing situation.
- Educate and advocate regarding tenant rights and responsibilities as outlined in the Residential Tenancies Act.
- Provide targeted assistance aimed at enhancing housing stability and preventing future housing loss.
- Engage in hands-on support for the development and execution of client-centered housing plans.
- Conduct phone assessments to determine program eligibility, perform assessments, and facilitate program intakes. Work will occur both in the office and within the community through home visits, accompanying clients to appointments, attending hearings, and collaborating with other community organizations.
- Comfortable with client advocacy and navigating complex systems.
Qualifications
- A degree in Social Services or a related field is required.
- At least one year of relevant experience or a combination of education, training, and experience in Social Services or a related area.
- Knowledge of or a willingness to learn about the housing system, the Residential Tenancies Act, and the Ontario Human Rights Code is essential.
- Willingness to support clients during hearings at the Landlord and Tenant Board.
- Strong understanding and experience addressing issues affecting youth, women, and families, including homelessness, domestic violence, poverty, mental health challenges, and substance use.
- Commitment to a person-centered, trauma-informed, harm reduction, and housing-first approach.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, along with strong verbal and written communication abilities, time management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
- CPR certification or willingness to obtain certification is required.
- A valid G driver's license is necessary.
- Fluency in a second language is considered an asset.
