About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Private Banker to join our team at Scotiabank. As a key business development position, this role will focus on generating new clients and cross-selling, up-selling, and retaining existing high-value Wealth Management clients.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead Portfolio Management and Risk Mitigation
  • Work directly with Retail credit adjudication or with Wealth Credit Solutions to negotiate standard Bank terms, conditions, structuring fees, interest rates, and documentation.
  • Provide relationship banking and administrative support to a portfolio of complex, high net worth clients.
  • Manage client relationships to ensure that credit facilities and accounts are operating satisfactorily.
  • Act as the client's Primary Relationship Manager (PRM) by utilizing the Financial Planning process to develop an in-depth understanding of the client's needs.
Drive Business Development
  • Actively market customized Private Banking credit solutions to support wealth creation or diversification strategies, insurance solutions, currency, and interest rate risk management.
  • Develop and execute new business strategies to attract and retain high net worth clients.
  • Develop client management plans and make referrals that result in deeper client relationships.
Maintain Operational Effectiveness
  • Provide direction, guidance, and support to the Manager, Client Services as required.
  • Review and resolve client concerns and issues and ensure that the Bank's Customer Complaint Resolution Process is in place and effective.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and guidelines, including Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing, FCAC, Know Your Customer, CDIC, Occupational Health & Safety.
Ensure Credit Facilities Operate Within Authorized Terms and ConditionsDevelop Sound Commercial Underwriting SkillsEnsure Security Documentation is Accurately Prepared, Complete, Registered, and Renewed as RequiredBuild Effective Working Relationships Across the Team and with Various Business Line and Corporate Function ContactsFacilitate a Culture of Open and Honest CommunicationActively Share Knowledge and Experience to Enhance the Development of All Team MembersRequirements
  1. Minimum 5 years of commercial lending or small business banking experience and retail business banking experience preferred.
  2. Established network of High Net Worth clients in the Canadian Banking industry.
  3. 3 to 5 years of Managerial Commercial, Small Business, and/or Retail Banking experience, dealing with high net worth clients and sophisticated financing requirements.
  4. Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and business development skills.
  5. University degree (BComm, MBA, CFA), in addition to industry courses (e.g., CSC, PFP, CFP) is an asset.
  6. Bilingual in English and French is required.
