Grinder Specialist

Nap Gladu is seeking a skilled Grinder Specialist to join our team. As a Grinder Specialist, you will be responsible for sharpening all types of knives to meet client specifications.

• Select the appropriate crown gear based on the number of wings on the tool to be sharpened.
• Mount the tool on the grinding wheel.
• Adjust the tool angle by placing a wing against the back of the wheel. Once complete, move the tool away from the wheel.
• Start the machine.
• Slowly approach the wheel with the tool using the feed screw, bring the tool close enough to produce sparks on the tip.
• Index the tool to the next wing, make sparks on this tip; if the tip does not touch the wheel correctly, return to steps 3, 4, and 5.
• Repeat the process until the head is complete.
• Visually inspect the entire head for any signs of blunting, pointed tips, curved tips, thick or thin tips, etc.
• Place the tool in the correct position for the next step.
• Train others in grinding and sharpening, ensure the safety of trainees, manage tool flow.

• Ability to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

• Good organizational and communication skills.

High school diploma. 3 years of experience preferred. In the absence of experience, it will be necessary to complete a successful onboarding program.

Prior experience or successful onboarding training. All CNESST-mandated safety training. Cross-training in another job.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, ordinary fractions, and decimals.
