Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Support Specialist to join our team at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. As an integral member of our school community, you will provide support to students with exceptional needs, working collaboratively with teaching and other professional staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental disabilities, and other exceptional needs
  • Participate in pool programs, academic support, and implement special programs to promote student success
  • Support students with learning disabilities, speech/language issues, and other challenges
  • Modify programs and learning materials to meet the needs of students with diverse abilities
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff to develop and implement individualized education plans
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to students, promoting social and emotional well-being
Requirements
  • Community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent
  • Minimum 1-2 years of related experience working with school-aged special needs children
  • Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work collaboratively and respectfully
  • Knowledge of Ontario Curriculum and educational communication software

  • Assistive Technology - Google Read & Write

  • Experience with augmentative communication
  • Experience supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
  • Collaborative Problem Solving
  • Behaviour Management Systems
  • Computer Skills
  • CPR and First Aid
