Microbiologist I

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Microbiologist I to join our team at Thermo Fisher Scientific. As a Microbiologist I, you will be responsible for performing analysis on finished products, raw materials, or packaging materials following established methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform media preparation and growth promotion testing.
• Document all tests, test materials, and equipment used, as well as all results obtained.
• Conduct water testing and environmental monitoring.
• Maintain cultures and identify microorganisms.
• Perform equipment maintenance and calibration.
• Assist with laboratory cleaning, equipment cleaning, and glassware cleaning.
• Assist with incoming sample management.
• Report fillings, scanning, and archiving as required.
• Perform all work in a safe manner and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Maintain a safe working environment and report potential hazards.
• Perform alternating or rotating shift work, including weekend or after-hours work as required.

Requirements:

• College or technical school diploma/degree in Microbiology or a related field.
• Minimum 1 year of demonstrated microbiology laboratory experience.
• Experience with SAP/LIMS is an asset.

• Detail-oriented individual with excellent organizational skills.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work well independently and in a team environment with limited supervision.
• Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices.
• Understanding of Standard Operating Procedures.
• Good understanding of safety standards.
• Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• Proficiency with the English language.

Physical Requirements:

• Position requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about laboratory and office locations.
• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time.
• Manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights of 10-35 pounds.
• Arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and type for prolonged periods of time.
• Visual acuity to use a keyboard, computer monitor, operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time.
