Position Overview

As a Bridge Engineer, you will be instrumental in the planning, design, and construction of bridges and other transportation infrastructures that are essential to our community's connectivity. Your proficiency in structural engineering principles, materials science, and project management will enable you to ensure the safe, efficient, and sustainable development of transportation networks. From initial design concepts to final inspections, you will be accountable for maintaining the structural integrity, functionality, and durability of bridges while adhering to regulatory standards and project specifications.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, skills, and attributes:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
  • At least 5 years of progressive design experience in public infrastructure projects, including bridge-sized culverts and both steel and concrete bridge structures in Alberta and Western Canada.
  • Proven experience with Alberta Transportation design guidelines and construction specifications.
  • Ability to lead detailed design and contract preparation independently and collaboratively.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Alberta Transportation standards and policies, as well as the Highway Bridge Design Code (CSA-S6).
  • Capability to provide construction liaison and serve as Contract Administrator.
  • Proficient in reviewing and approving technical design reports.
  • Strong understanding of interdisciplinary scopes and effective communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle with appropriate registration and insurance, including a 3-year driver abstract.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop budgets and schedules, plan work activities, and provide technical guidance and oversight.
  • Manage project teams, oversee project budgets and timelines, and ensure quality control of deliverables.
  • Conduct preliminary design and bridge planning activities and produce necessary deliverables.
  • Execute detailed structural design calculations and analyses.
  • Perform technical reviews of colleagues' work to ensure quality assurance.
  • Design and review engineering solutions for new bridges and bridge rehabilitation projects;
  • Generate project construction quantity and cost estimates, along with contract documents and specifications.
  • Support the development and training of bridge group staff.
  • Assist leadership in expanding the bridge group and pursuing new business opportunities.
  • Provide engineering expertise related to the design, rehabilitation, evaluation, and inspection of bridges, culverts, and other transportation structures.
  • Prepare and review cost estimates, specifications, tender documents, and reports.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, including highway, foundation, environmental, drainage, and electrical.
  • Offer construction administration support and conduct site inspections as needed.
  • Maintain positive relationships with clients and stakeholders.
