Job Title: Junior Underwriter

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Underwriter to join our Individual Underwriting team at Equitable Life of Canada. As a Junior Underwriter, you will be responsible for learning and applying critical thinking skills to the practice of underwriting, including medical, financial, and non-medical risk factors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Learning and applying critical thinking skills to the practice of underwriting, including medical, financial, and non-medical risk factors
  • Providing a superior quality client experience while working as an individual and as an integral member of a team
  • Complying with legislative requirements, consumer regulation, and reinsurance treaties as they apply to privacy, disclosure, and risk classification
  • Contributing to the continuous enhancement of underwriting risk practices and procedures
  • Building internal and external relationships to provide a first-class experience

Requirements:

  • Bilingual in French and English is an asset
  • Bilingual in Mandarin or Cantonese would also be an asset
  • Post-secondary education with a particular focus in a health or medical field of study is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of Individual Life and Health products is preferred, ideally with some previous underwriting experience
  • Comfortable in a dynamic work environment with the flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • Excellent relationship skills – proactive and client-focused is key
  • Commitment to continuous learning and participation in education enhancement to remain current with medical knowledge and industry underwriting trends
  • Good knowledge of MS Office Suite
