Title: Finance Officer - Accounts Receivable and Property Taxation

Department: Corporate Services

Status: Full-time Permanent

Salary: $76,922.35 per annum, 35 hour/week

Settlement Allowance: $20,907.43 per annum

Job Summary:

The Finance Officer - Accounts Receivable and Property Taxation is responsible for billing and maintaining all Accounts Receivable and Property Taxation accounts. This role requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, as well as excellent communication and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing monthly invoices and statements for all AR accounts.
  • Preparing and issuing all Property Tax notices and reports to customers, banks, and mortgage companies.
  • Preparing and issuing all Grants In Lieu Tax notices.
  • Preparing and issuing all Property Tax certificates.
  • Ensuring compliance with City By-Laws, Property Assessment Taxation Act, and other applicable legislation.
  • Aiding in verifying, updating, and reconciling property taxation assessment roll in collaboration with Lands and Planning Department.
  • Processing any approved account adjustments as required.
  • Maintaining computerized AR and Property Tax sub-ledgers.
  • Responding to customer inquiries (written and verbal).
  • Reconciling sub-ledgers to the G/L Control Accounts.
  • Preparing and processing approved journal entries.
  • Producing monthly accounts receivable aged trial balances.
  • Preparing accounts receivable reports and arrears letters for overdue accounts.
  • Reviewing bank deposits for accuracy.
  • Maintaining land lease amortization database.
  • Communicating with legal representatives during sale of property.
  • Maintaining and following established collection procedures.
  • Recommending policy and procedure development and improvements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 Diploma
  • Degree or diploma in Accounting, Business Administration, or equivalent
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience in financial administration to obtain a working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), experience with preparing financial reports, and computerized accounting systems.

Assets:

  • Enrollment in a recognized accounting association;
  • Member in good standing with CPA Canada;
  • Ability to communicate in one or more of Nunavut's official languages.

Equivalencies that include a combination of education and experience may be considered. Please provide copies of relevant certifications along with your application. The successful candidate would be required to submit a Criminal Record Check.
