Department Description: Vice-President Research and Innovation Office Administration
Position Grade: 9

About Us
Simon Fraser University stands as a premier research institution, dedicated to fostering an inclusive and sustainable future. Our mission is to cultivate and connect knowledge, learning, and community to promote deeper understanding and significant impact. We are devoted to nurturing excellence, innovation, belonging, and community in all our endeavors.
The SFU Knowledge Mobilization (KM) Hub is designed to support and inspire the SFU research community in mobilizing their work, enhancing collaboration, and generating impact. The Hub achieves this by offering training, consultation, and resources for knowledge mobilization initiatives and projects, while also expanding recognition for researchers engaged in this vital work. A key aspect of this initiative is our collaboration in the Agricultural Genomics Action Centre (AG-ACt), a complex, inter-institutional, and nationwide initiative funded by Genome Canada.
The AG-ACt aims to facilitate the coordination and mobilization of knowledge from a variety of research projects across Canada to the agricultural sector, with the goal of reducing the carbon footprint of Canada's food systems and assisting the nation in achieving its net-zero target by 2050.
Role Overview
In this position, you will engage with both internal and external ecosystem partners, including project leadership and knowledge mobilization leads, as well as other experts to define portfolio activities and support knowledge mobilization efforts.
Collaborating closely with the AG-ACt Portfolio Manager, you will explore knowledge mobilization plans at both individual project and portfolio levels, working with multiple cross-national project teams to support the dissemination of knowledge from various projects. This will involve mapping stakeholders, conducting needs assessments, bridging across lead institutions, and shaping the AG-ACt KM platform.
The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, demonstrating the ability to adapt to diverse audiences and situations. You will be adept at critical thinking to prioritize goals and activities effectively, ensuring project completion. Collaboration is key, as you will build relationships, share knowledge, and resolve challenges. Experience working across disciplines and sectors with a high level of tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality is essential. You should be a resourceful team member capable of working independently and thriving in fast-paced, intellectually stimulating environments. Experience in mobilizing research through collaboration, dissemination, implementation, and commercialization is highly valued.
Qualifications
A Master's degree in Social Sciences, Sciences, Health Sciences, or a related field (e.g., agriculture, genomics, communications) along with two years of relevant experience in community engagement, science communication, and knowledge mobilization, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Proficient understanding of knowledge mobilization practices and scientific principles.
- Familiarity with research concepts, principles, protocols, procedures, and terminology.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Strong writing abilities, capable of drafting both internal and external communications.
What We Provide
At SFU, we strive to ensure our employees feel valued and supported by promoting a healthy work-life balance, professional growth, and development, as well as a safe and respectful workplace. We offer temporary employees who belong to the Administrative & Professional Staff Association (APSA):
- An additional 7% pay in lieu of benefits & 8% vacation pay
- Employer-paid extended health & dental plans
- Professional development funds (minimum contract period of 1 year)
- Hybrid-work program for eligible positions
Additional Information
The assignment is set for a duration of 2 years from the start date.
