Position Overview
The role of a Diesel Mechanic involves performing preventative and scheduled maintenance on locomotives within a dynamic and safety-focused environment, adhering to regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical skills and excel in complex troubleshooting tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct maintenance, inspections, servicing, testing, and repairs on all locomotive systems, mobile equipment, and vehicles utilized in various services.
- Diagnose issues with diesel engines and execute repairs in accordance with regulatory and company standards.
- Complete tasks based on blueprints, schematic drawings, and service manuals.
- Assess parts for potential reuse, repair, or replacement.
- Perform non-structural welding, adjustments, and calibrations on mechanical components.
- Modify and assemble mechanical systems as required.
- Handle low voltage repairs on locomotive electrical systems.
- Maintain cleanliness and functionality of locomotive cabs, including cleaning surfaces and facilities.
- Operate equipment such as overhead or mobile cranes, forklifts, and hand tools.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or general equivalency diploma is required.
- A valid driver's license is mandatory.
- Must possess one of the following: Red Seal in Heavy-Duty Mechanics, Automotive Technician, Agriculture Equipment Technician, Truck and Transport Technician, Recreation Vehicle Service Technician, or Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), along with 6 years of relevant experience, or hold a Unifor Local 101R card.
- Willingness to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in all weather conditions.
- Ability to pass required written examinations and comprehend safety instructions, rules, and regulations in English.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to guidelines.
- Strong communication skills to provide clear instructions and directions.
