Job Title: Mental Health Liaison Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Mental Health Liaison Nurse to join our team at Prairie Mountain Health. As a Mental Health Liaison Nurse, you will play a critical role in providing mental health support and services to patients in the Emergency Department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess and consult with patients presenting to the Emergency Department with mental health concerns and/or substance abuse.
  • Collaborate with the Emergency Department healthcare team to develop treatment, discharge, and transfer plans.
  • Provide mental health consultation and support to patients, families, and healthcare staff.
  • Develop and implement recovery-oriented practices.
  • Conduct follow-up calls to patients as required to assess the effectiveness of interventions planned in the Emergency Department.
  • Process and implement referrals to community resources.
  • Obtain collateral information from community service providers, family, and other healthcare institutions.
Requirements:
  • Current practicing licensure with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurse of Manitoba.
  • A minimum of three (3) years within the past five (5) years of relevant clinical experience in mental health.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Training as delineated in Prairie Mountain Health Policy PPG-00002 CPR Training.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology.
  • Knowledge of adult learning and ability to teach individuals and groups effectively.
  • Knowledge of, competence, and aptitude for working with this specific patient population (principles of crisis intervention, co-occurring disorders, dialectical behavior therapy).
  • Excellent counseling and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to make effective decisions regarding nursing care.
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships with coworkers and clients.
Working Conditions:

The Mental Health Liaison Nurse will work in a fast-paced environment, providing mental health support and services to patients in the Emergency Department. The successful candidate will be required to work effectively in a team environment, communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff, and maintain confidentiality.
