Job Title: Chef, Ethnic Foods Specialist

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Chef to join our team at Saucin Staples. As a Chef, Ethnic Foods Specialist, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking complete meals or individual dishes and foods, as well as training staff in preparation, cooking, and handling of food.

Work Setting:

Our restaurant is a fast-paced environment where attention to detail is crucial. You will work under pressure to maintain high-quality standards and ensure that all food is prepared and presented to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods
  • Train staff in preparation, cooking, and handling of food
  • Supervise kitchen staff and helpers
  • Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies, and equipment
  • Clean kitchen and work areas
  • Recruit and hire staff
  • Manage kitchen operations

Support for Newcomers and Refugees:
  • Participate in a government or community program or initiative that supports newcomers and/or refugees
  • Assist with immediate settlement needs of newcomers and/or refugees
  • Support social and labour market integration of newcomers and/or refugees
  • Recruit newcomers and/or refugees who were displaced by a conflict or a natural disaster
  • Support newcomers and/or refugees with foreign credential recognition
  • Offer mentorship programs that pair newcomers and/or refugees with experienced employees
  • Provide diversity and cross-cultural trainings to create a welcoming work environment for newcomers and/or refugees
Support for Youth:
  • Participate in a government or community program or initiative that supports youth employment
  • Offer on-the-job training tailored to youth
  • Offer mentorship, coaching, and/or networking opportunities for youth
  • Provide awareness training to employees to create a welcoming work environment for youth
Support for Indigenous People:
  • Participate in a government or community program or initiative that supports Indigenous people
  • Offer mentorship, coaching, and/or networking opportunities for Indigenous workers
  • Develop and maintain relationships with indigenous communities, indigenous-owned businesses, and organizations
  • Provide cultural competency training and/or awareness training to all employees to create a welcoming work environment for Indigenous workers
  • Facilitate access to Elders who can offer support and guidance to Indigenous workers
Support for Visible Minorities:
  • Participate in a government or community program or initiative that supports members of visible minorities
  • Apply hiring policies that discourage discrimination against members of visible minorities
  • Offer mentorship programs that pair members of visible minorities with experienced employees
  • Provide diversity and cross-cultural training to create a welcoming work environment for members of visible minorities
