Job Summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking an Electromyography Technologist to join the Neuromuscular Disease team at Vancouver General Hospital.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform various diagnostic tests and techniques to assist physicians in detecting disorders of the brain and nervous system.
  • Operate electromyographic equipment to conduct electrophysiological tests, including evoked potential, nerve conduction velocity, muscle strength, and repetitive stimulation.
  • Record measurements and formulate technical reports for interpretation by medical staff to assist with clinical diagnosis.
  • Guide clinical experience of assigned new staff and students, and provide input to supervisors as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Diploma from an accredited program in electroneurophysiology and one year of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Registration of Electromyography Technologists of Canada (BRETC), the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine (ABEM), or the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists (AAET) examination.

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to stay current with professional standards and technical knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform duties accurately and maintain quality standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, coworkers, physicians, and other healthcare staff.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to organize work and work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated computer skills with current computer applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
