Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Payroll Clerk to join our team at School District #33 (Chilliwack). As a key member of our Financial Services department, you will be responsible for performing payroll and related functions for all employee groups.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process payroll and related functions, including inputs and retrievals of data on the computer.
  • Distribute, collect, and ensure accuracy of timesheets, calculate overtime rates, compensatory time, acting pay, and other necessary adjustments.
  • Generate pay calculations, produce payroll registers, and complete payroll.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of employee contracts and collective agreements.
  • Reconcile benefit billings to payroll records and general ledger accounts.
  • Provide detailed sick leave, earnings, and pension contribution reports for salary indemnity plans.
  • Assist employees in completing LTD/CPP (Disability) applications and provide necessary documentation to the carrier.
  • Perform other clerical or emergent duties as required.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Over two years' up to and including three years' experience in a computerized, unionized payroll and human resources environment.
  • Successful completion of the Payroll Administration course offered by the Canadian Payroll Association of at least one year, to Level Two.
  • Proficient in numeric keypad skills.
  • Keyboarding speed of 50 words per minute.
  • Intermediate level bookkeeping skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of database and spreadsheet computer functions.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position that requires the ability to work with constant interruptions and maintain close attention to detail for periods of sustained duration. The successful candidate will be able to use tact and diplomacy when handling contacts of a difficult or specialized nature.
