Responsibilities
The Gastroenterology Nurse Practitioner (GI NP) collaborates with our gastroenterology team to ensure high-quality care for patients. Operating under the guidance of GI attending physicians, the GI NP engages in a comprehensive practice that includes both office and hospital settings, assisting with procedures as required. The GI NP is responsible for the holistic care of gastroenterology patients from admission through discharge and outpatient follow-up. Participation in evening and weekend on-call duties may be necessary.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting inpatient gastroenterology consultations
- Following up with gastroenterology patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings
- Communicating lab and test results to patients as needed
- Performing other related duties as assigned, including on-call coverage
- Assisting with emergency situations as required
The role involves physical activities such as sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and moving intermittently throughout working hours. There may be exposure to patient body substances and potentially infectious diseases, as well as hazardous materials and conditions.
Qualifications
Candidates must possess a valid nursing license in New York State and a Master of Science degree with certification as a Nurse Practitioner in New York State, along with a minimum of one (1) year of experience. Experience in gastroenterology is preferred, and proficiency in Spanish is an advantage.
