Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Director to lead our Psychiatry and Psychosocial Oncology team at BC Cancer. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for providing strategic direction and vision for the clinical, educational, and research activities of Psychiatry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical leadership and direction for the Psychiatry team, ensuring high-quality patient care and outcomes.
  • Develop and implement policies, guidelines, and protocols to improve patient care and safety.
  • Collaborate with other leaders to develop and implement quality improvement initiatives and human resource plans.
  • Work closely with regional centre Executive Medical Directors to hire and onboard new Psychiatry medical staff.
  • Ensure professional practice standards are maintained and facilitate growth in health equity and cultural competency within the team.
  • Proactively manage patient safety and patient experience, and participate in response to patient safety events.
  • Represent BC Cancer on committees and in other connections with organizations such as the UBC Department of Psychiatry, PHSA, and the Canadian Association of Psychosocial Oncology.
Requirements
  • Eligibility for provisional or full licensure with CPSBC.
  • Fellowship in Psychiatry with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada.
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism.
