Job Overview

As a key contributor to the Mechanical Hardware division, you will spearhead the design, innovation, and implementation of cutting-edge mechanical components, products, and assemblies. Your involvement will span the entire product lifecycle, from initial conceptualization and prototyping to the creation of fully operational and tested products ready for market introduction. This position emphasizes the development of productized applications for seamless deployment.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Design & Innovation: Drive the development of inventive mechanical designs, concentrating on new components, products, and assemblies that align with productized application requirements.
  • Prototyping & Validation: Create prototypes and perform comprehensive testing to verify product functionality and dependability.
  • Product Assistance: Offer internal support for your designs through thorough documentation, training of peers, and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate your designs into the wider product ecosystem.

Additional Duties:

  • Platform Enhancement: Participate in the advancement of Vention's 3D Machine Builder and e-Commerce platform, ensuring smooth integration of mechanical components. The Mechanical Engineering team is also tasked with documenting technical specifications and disseminating that information through the website.

Your Contributions:

Reporting to the Hardware Engineering Team Lead, you will:

  • Actively engage in the product roadmap and partake in all phases of product development, including scoping, design, validation, integration, and launch.
  • Collaborate with various multidisciplinary teams to develop mechanical and electro-mechanical products.
  • Work alongside program and product managers to gather product requirements and compile them into scoping documents.
  • Design mechanical systems and mechanisms, selecting components such as structural elements, linear and rotary actuators, and pneumatic components to meet the specifications set by the product team.
  • Collaborate with the Application R&D group on the development of diverse applications.
  • Lead and participate in design evaluations and brainstorming sessions.
  • Coordinate with purchasing, quality assurance, and production teams to ensure successful product launches and support for existing products.
  • Validate, integrate, and configure parts from chosen manufacturers, ensuring compatibility with the overall platform and adherence to Vention standards.
  • Conduct validation and reliability assessments of products.
  • Contribute to the progress of the Machine Builder online 3D platform by adding content, proposing new features, and reporting any discrepancies.
  • Generate technical documentation related to new products added to the Vention library.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electromechanical engineering.
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to execute tasks effectively while working collaboratively with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in industrial mechanical design (automated equipment, conveyors, actuators, structures, robotics, etc.).
  • Experience in multidisciplinary design projects.
  • Knowledge of electromechanical and pneumatic systems (sensors, motors, cylinders, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design standards and tolerancing, with the ability to communicate them effectively through technical drawings.
  • Proficient in Solidworks, CAD, and FEA.
  • Familiarity with PLM/PDM software for check-in/check-out processes and revision management is advantageous.
  • Experience in manufacturing processes and DFx (machining, molding, casting, forging) for metal and plastic components.
  • Knowledge of reliability and validation testing and root cause analysis.
  • Membership in the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec is a significant asset.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python and LabView is beneficial.
  • Proficient in both French and English, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
