Who are we seeking?

Our Tunnel Group is in search of a Senior Tunnel Engineer to enhance our team. This position will facilitate project work within GHD's Rail and Transportation sector and support various tunneling initiatives across Canada and beyond.

In the realm of problem-solving, a relentless curiosity is essential to foster community development.

Collaborating with a dynamic and high-achieving team, this role offers diverse responsibilities and will involve:

  • Demonstrating leadership in the execution and delivery of projects, maximizing GHD's engagement through the use of multidisciplinary teams, and enhancing client satisfaction in working with GHD.
  • Addressing technical and administrative responsibilities related to the development of subway tunnels and water market projects.
  • Collaborating effectively with our Joint Venture partners and clients.
  • Preparing comprehensive design reports and construction documentation.
  • Coordinating with other disciplines, professionals, clients, and third parties as necessary.
  • Drafting PSOS specifications.
  • Managing soft ground tunneling components, including ground treatment, dewatering, and ground freezing.
  • Compiling GBRs, reviewing GDRs, and planning geotechnical investigations for tunnel and underground structures.
  • Calculating tunneling-induced settlement and analyzing potential impacts on adjacent infrastructure.

What you will contribute to the team:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • A Master's degree in Tunnel or Geotechnical Engineering is advantageous.
  • Chartered status is required or progress towards it.
  • Proven experience in technical leadership and management of tunnel engineering and transportation or rail projects.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience, with at least 10 years focused on tunnel and underground projects.
  • Demonstrated capability in leading tunnel design and supervision teams for significant interdisciplinary tunneling projects.
  • Experience with various types of tunnel projects, including bored and NATM methods.
  • Expertise in designing large-diameter tunnels in soft ground (6m +).
  • Proficiency in deep shaft and shoring design.
  • Experience in rail transit tunnel and station design.
  • Hands-on experience with analytical and numerical analysis methods, including tunnel, precast concrete segmental tunnel linings, and shaft design.
  • Ability to liaise with other disciplines, professionals, clients, and third parties as required.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and teamwork abilities.
