We are seeking a highly skilled Tunnel/Trenchless Engineer to join our dynamic team in Mississauga or Markham, ON. As a key member of our Tunnel Group and Water Group, you will play a crucial role in delivering a wide range of tunnel engineering projects.

About the Role

As a Tunnel/Trenchless Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Assisting with project work within GHD's Water business and supporting other tunnelling projects across Canada or internationally.
  • Responding to technical and administrative tasks associated with the development of tunnels and underground structures.
  • Carrying out analysis as directed by senior members of the team for tunnel liners and shaft design using PLAXIS, FLAC, Rocscience, etc.
  • Preparing tunnel reports input to the tunnel component of proposals.
  • Attending client meetings along with your supervisor.
What We're Looking For

We're looking for a talented individual with:

  • A university graduate degree in geotechnical, geological, or civil engineering (Master's degree in Tunnel/Geotechnical Engineering is an asset).
  • Professional status is essential, or working towards it.
  • Proven experience in tunnel engineering, water projects.
  • Minimum of 5 years working on municipalities tunnel/trenchless projects, post-graduate.
  • Capability in working within tunnel design or construction teams.
  • Experience designing mid-size tunnels (2m +).
  • Ability to design deep shaft & shoring structures.
  • Experience in the design of tunnels in soft ground and underground support of structure.
  • Confident with analytical and numerical analysis methods and ability to work with various industry-standard geotechnical software's (PLAXIS, FLAC, Rocscience).
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of the different tunnelling/trenchless & shaft construction methods, logistics, equipment & methodology selection.
  • Experience in calculating tunnel induce settlement including analysis of damages to the adjacent infrastructure.
  • Familiar with settlement instrumentation & monitoring.
  • Soft ground tunnelling ancillaries including ground treatment & ground freezing will be an asset.
  • Familiar with the preparation of GBR's, along with the review of GDR and geotechnical investigation planning for tunnel and underground structures.
  • Ability to assist in preparing project specifications.
  • Familiar with cost estimating & scheduling for tunnel/shaft construction.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparation of detailed design reports & construction reporting.
  • Excellent technical writing, presentation, and team work skills.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License (G).
