Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Logistics Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the transportation of fresh produce, ensuring acceptable transport conditions, lead times, and cost.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the import and export of perishable shipments to ensure timely pickups and deliveries within budget.
- Make transportation arrangements with carriers in North America and abroad.
- Track and trace shipments in transit, communicating estimated times of arrivals (ETAs) and unexpected events that may cause delays or early delivery.
- Propose transportation routes for ocean, air, and over-the-road, taking into account intermodal or cross-docking alternatives.
- Optimize routes for multiple pick-ups or deliveries.
- Maintain and update databases and controls with accurate information.
- Ensure all documents comply with Customs regulations and government food authorities.
- Produce and provide timely documentation for Customs clearance to prevent delays in delivery.
- Monitor Customs releases and clearances for inbound and outbound shipments.
- Review and approve invoices related to freight and customs services.
- Perform additional logistics duties as needed.
- Comply with workplace health and safety regulations and procedures.
Requirements:
- Successful completion of post-secondary education.
- Minimum 3 years of transportation experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Excel.
- Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility with work hours/days to support the operation is essential.
- Strong customer service and conflict resolution skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with perishable shipments.
- Designations/certifications related to transportation.
