Job Summary

PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Senior Estimator to join our team. As a key member of our estimating department, you will be responsible for providing accurate and detailed estimates for large-scale construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Estimate Development: Conduct thorough analysis of contract documents, including isometric, as-built, and engineering drawings, to determine project requirements and develop detailed estimates.
  • Schedule Management: Establish critical path schedules, including milestone dates and completion timelines, to ensure timely project completion.
  • Quantity Take-Off: Complete full quantity take-off of labor, equipment, and materials for larger scopes, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Pricing and Bid Management: Lead pricing efforts for general expenses and project-specific general requirements, ensuring compliance with contract terms and conditions.
  • Estimate Presentation: Assist in presenting estimates and proposals to clients, preparing and delivering presentations that effectively communicate project scope and value.
  • Document Management: Document all estimate-related information, archiving and organizing data to facilitate smooth project handovers.
  • Risk and Opportunity Analysis: Conduct risk and opportunity analyses to identify potential project risks and opportunities, providing recommendations for mitigation and capture.
  • Client Liaison: Liaise with external consultants and project management organizations to estimate project budget requirements and coordinate tender development processes.
  • Project Success Criteria: Monitor client project-specific success criteria, understanding owners' business requirements and providing solutions to drive project success.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a related discipline or equivalent trade experience.
  • Certification: Gold Seal certification in estimating required (CDN).
  • Experience: 12 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating, with 12 months of onsite experience preferred.
  • Leadership: Successfully led pursuits valued up to $250 million in delivery model hard bid/lump sum, construction management/cost reimbursable/target price, and/or design build.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Extensive knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity take-off procedures, trade contractor procurement, pricing, and bid closing procedures.
  • Contract Understanding: Expert understanding and teaching of contract terms for various delivery models, identifying contract risks and opportunities.
  • Bid Processes: Understanding of different bid processes and contract delivery type methods, including hard bid/lump sum, guaranteed maximum price (GMP), unit price, design-build, target prices, and construction management/cost reimbursable.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Ability to lead successful teams, develop and maintain productive working relationships with owners, peers, and industry representatives, and leverage industry relationships for a competitive advantage.
