About the Role

As a Funeral Director at SCI, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to families in need of funeral arrangements, cremation ceremonies, and interment services. Your primary goal will be to implement the choices made by families or legal representatives regarding the funeral, final disposition of the body, and memorialization of the individual.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute tasks including taking initial calls, speaking with families, answering questions, and providing initial information.
  • Confirm authorization to execute funeral arrangements.
  • Supervise care and handle the deceased with respect while performing a variety of tasks such as transportation, verifying identification, obtaining authorization for embalming, dressing, hairstyling, and makeup.
  • Organize and direct funeral rites, including funerals and memorial services, in a professional and organized manner, with empathy, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Assist with funeral services.
  • Prepare and complete documents with precision and provide services after death, including delivering documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations from various levels of authority, including professional, municipal, provincial, and federal.
  • Assist with general office tasks, including answering phones and preparing reports, if necessary.
  • Aid in maintaining facilities and property.
  • Receive and store caskets and other equipment from the funeral home and maintain inventory.
  • Ensure refreshments are provided.
  • Engage with the community.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Thanatopracteur diploma from the province of Québec.

Experience

  • Experience as a thanatopracteur or funeral director.
  • 2 years of experience preferred.

Certification/Permit

  • Valid driver's license in Québec and an acceptable driving record.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Sensitivity to family choices regarding religious and fraternal customs.
  • High integrity and great capacity for compassion.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and establish priorities.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of English would be an asset.
