Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Recreation Facilitator to join our team at Pan Am Clinic. As a Recreation Facilitator, you will be responsible for planning and implementing recreation programs designed to optimize the social, mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of our residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement monthly activity calendars that cater to the diverse needs and interests of our residents.
  • Track statistics for program attendance, cancellations, and issues that arise, and report quarterly statistics at Continuous Quality Improvement meetings.
  • Book entertainment and plan special events in collaboration with recreation staff.
  • Assess individual residents, record their progress, and update team members regarding resident attendance at groups and portering residents to recreation programs.
  • Attend and contribute to Resident Care Team Conferences and Care Plan Review meetings.
  • Assist the Recreation Manager with planning, preparing, implementing, and evaluating both on-unit and large programs for residents.
  • Work with residents and staff to plan, develop, and schedule recreation programs that meet the needs, interests, and abilities of our residents.
  • Prioritize work around resident care activities and assist with meals.
  • Assure all residents are aware of daily recreation plans.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding information about residents according to the Personal Health Information Act.
  • Document clear and concise notes on a regular basis according to standards.
  • Complete residents' recreation assessments 3-6 weeks following admission and review assessments every three months. Complete annual assessments.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by the Recreation Manager.
  • Participate in evening and weekend shifts as well as outings.
  • Assist residents with their toilet routine while on outings (one person assist only).
  • Prepare food and refreshments and assist with serving.
  • Complete 1-1 visits with residents.
  • Support and supervise volunteers assigned to the Recreation Department. Provide orientation, training, and specialized feeding and swallowing training to volunteers as appropriate.
  • Maintain attendance sheets for all programs.
  • Complete weekly cleaning routines and maintain facility pet care (bird).
  • Maintain equipment, prepare materials, monitor supplies, and prepare recreational areas on the floors or in other environments and clean up after programs.
  • Participate in continuing education through seminars, workshops, and in-services related to recreation programs in long-term care, recognizing special populations, such as disabilities and cognitive impairments.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate
  • RRC Certificate 'Therapeutic Recreation Facilitator for Older Adults' or equivalent or Degree in Recreation
  • Related experience in long-term care and/or working with disabled or physically challenged individuals would be an asset
  • Ability to plan, organize work, and coordinate programs and work independently and as a team member
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer skills an asset
  • Physical ability to tolerate constant standing, walking, portering, bending, and lifting
  • Requires the ability to be creative, have initiative, and possess a good imagination
  • CPR, First Aid, and Food Serving Certificates are an asset
Working Conditions

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.

This position is subject to the Collective Agreement between the Manitoba Nurses' Union and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.
