About This OpportunityThe community is actively seeking a comprehensive family medicine practitioner to become part of their family practice network in the scenic region of Cape Breton South. This role provides the opportunity to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, and dietitians, in a modern collaborative practice established in 2020.
Depending on your professional interests, there are options to engage with local healthcare facilities by covering emergency room shifts or providing inpatient care through a community hospital program, facilitating a balanced work-life schedule.
This region caters to the healthcare needs of residents in Richmond County and the southern part of Inverness County. The local hospital is approximately 80 kilometers from a major regional referral center, equipped with 15 medicine beds and five restorative care beds, offering a range of inpatient, outpatient, and satellite services. Additional interdisciplinary services available include:
- Community-based rehabilitation
- Diabetes education
- Diagnostic imaging
- Dietitian services
- Emergency department
- Foot care clinic
- Hemodialysis
- Laboratory services
- Mental health and addictions services
- Occupational therapy
- Palliative care
- Physiotherapy

Visiting specialists in the facility include:
- Cardiology
- Nephrology
- Ophthalmology
- Palliative care
- Perform the full scope of practice as a family physician, delivering care to patients within the eastern zone and participating in on-call duties.
- Accountable to the zone department head of family practice for professional responsibilities and quality of care, operating within the Medical Staff Bylaws.
- In addition to routine office work, the successful candidate may provide part-time coverage in community emergency medicine, inpatient care, and nursing home services.
- Part-time or full-time hours available.
- Flexible scheduling options.
- Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
- Eligibility for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
- Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).
- Emergency medicine experience is considered an asset.
- ATLS, ACLS, PALS, and advanced airway training are required.
