Job Summary:

Sinai Health System is seeking an experienced Anesthesia Assistant to support our Respiratory Therapy Department at Mount Sinai Hospital. As a key member of the Anaesthesia Care Team (ACT), you will provide technical support and clinical assistance to the Anaesthesiologist, functioning at times as a Clinical Extender.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assess labouring, pre-op and post-op patients, and provide technical support during the induction, maintenance and recovery phases of anaesthesia.
  2. Monitor stable patients under regional or general anesthesia, and assist with the administration and monitoring of procedural sedation.
  3. Assist with the assessment of analgesic requirements of laboring women, and troubleshoot labour epidurals.
  4. Administer and monitor procedural sedation to mothers undergoing fetal procedures.
  5. Provide care to other patient care areas, including the Emergency Department, Medicine and Surgery units, and Intensive Care Units (both adult and neonatal).
  6. Operate, set-up, maintain and troubleshoot all anesthesia equipment, including the anesthesia gas machines.
  7. Conduct airway management, including difficult airways, and hemodynamic monitoring.
  8. Manage and transport patients that require mechanical ventilation.
  9. Restock anesthetic supplies.
  10. Assist with research and teaching.

Requirements:

  1. Completion of an accredited Anesthesia Assistant Graduate Certificate Program.
  2. Member in good standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO).
  3. Minimum of 2 years of recent Critical Care Experience and 3-5 years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
  4. Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Member in good standing with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists, Respiratory Therapy Society of Ontario and Canadian Anesthesiologist Society.
