About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Anesthesia Assistant to join our team at Sinai Health System. As a key member of our perioperative care team, you will provide technical support and clinical assistance to our anesthesiologists, functioning as a clinical extender in various settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and care for patients in labor, pre-op, and post-op settings, including monitoring stable patients under regional or general anesthesia.
  • Assist with the induction, maintenance, and recovery phases of anesthesia, as well as post-op transport of stable patients.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot labor epidurals, administer epidural top-ups as prescribed, and provide procedural sedation to mothers undergoing fetal procedures.
  • Operate, set up, maintain, and troubleshoot anesthesia equipment, including anesthesia gas machines.
  • Conduct airway management, including difficult airways, hemodynamic monitoring, and set up of mechanical ventilators.
  • Manage and transport patients requiring mechanical ventilation.
  • Restock anesthetic supplies and assist with research projects.
  • Teach house staff and students from inter-professional disciplines.
Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited Anesthesia Assistant Graduate Certificate Program and knowledge in predetermined anesthesia-related educational objectives.
  • Member in good standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO).
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent Critical Care Experience and 3-5 years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Member in good standing with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists, Respiratory Therapy Society of Ontario, and Canadian Anesthesiologist Society.
