Health and Safety Specialist

The Municipal Group of Companies, a leading provider of heavy civil construction, mining, and environmental services in the Atlantic Provinces, is seeking a highly skilled Health and Safety Advisor to join its safety department.
Job Summary:
The successful candidate will report to the Health & Safety Manager and be responsible for ensuring the safe operation of facilities and day-to-day activities of the organization. This includes advising, mentoring, and coaching on the organization's safety programs, policies, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and maintain the Corporate Health & Safety Management System (HSMS) within the Environmental Services Group.
- Support Operations Managers, Supervisors, and employees in the development and delivery of health and safety initiatives and measures.
- Provide clear direction and communication on health and safety matters to Operations Managers, Supervisors, and employees.
- Participate in the identification and completion of health and safety performance targets and objectives.
- Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of applicable regulations and legislation for Canada.
- Travel to worksites to ensure operational conformance and conduct health and safety inspections and reporting.
- Complete health and safety audits (COR) to maintain company letters of good standing.
- Develop injury and incident prevention strategies and promote open discussion of safety concerns and best practices.
Requirements:
- 3-5 years' experience in a safety role.
- Professional Safety designation or willingness to work towards such a designation.
- Knowledge and use of all necessary Government Acts, Legislation, and Requirements.
- Professional written and oral communication skills and effective listening skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Office and safety software systems.
- Ability to travel throughout the province to various worksites.
