The Lead Hand plays a crucial role in assisting the Foreman with various aspects of personnel management and equipment oversight, as well as making informed decisions regarding daily production activities. This position involves guiding the daily operations of equipment operators, laborers, and subcontractors, and includes the ability to perform hands-on tasks when necessary.

Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the pre-planning of work for the crew.
  • Providing training and mentorship to enhance safety practices and improve job performance.
  • Ensuring the protection of employees, contractors, clients, the public, and the environment from potential hazards.
  • Overseeing compliance with the company's safety program and all relevant regulations, including:
    • Promoting a culture that prioritizes safety, health, and cleanliness.
    • Conducting end-of-shift and weekly site inspections as necessary.
    • Assisting with inspections of equipment, tools, and vehicles, and maintaining records.
    • Identifying and mitigating site hazards.
    • Ensuring tools and equipment are safe, inspected, and maintained according to manufacturer specifications.
    • Ensuring all personnel wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) on site.
    • Providing first aid when required.
    • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the work site and equipment.
    • Upholding quality workmanship, production standards, and team morale.
    • Making independent decisions to resolve issues and coordinate work effectively.
    • Providing clear directions and instructions to workers.
    • Collaborating closely with the Site Foreman or Superintendent.
    • Instructing employees on work methods and performance expectations.
    • Suspending unsafe activities that pose risks to personnel or violate policies.
    • Performing additional duties as assigned by management, including operating machinery or laboring tasks.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Experience in Foundation Piling, Drilling, or CFA is essential.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License and relevant certifications (SiteReadyBC, Ground Disturbance Lv.2, First Aid, Fall Protection, Aerial Work Platform).
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Technical Skills:

  • Proven construction experience related to Foundation Piling.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Competence in interpreting engineering and architectural drawings.
  • Knowledge of ground stability and rigging.
  • Understanding of load securement and trailer operations.
  • Familiarity with ground disturbance, trenching/excavation, and utility management.
  • Experience operating machinery with a strong understanding of its capabilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Comprehension of construction methods related to Foundation Piling.
  • Ability to create effective project schedules.
