Old Toronto, Ontario, Canada Lyft Full time

At Lyft, we are dedicated to enhancing lives through exceptional transportation solutions. Our Infrastructure team is committed to developing software that addresses challenges at an extensive scale. When we create solutions that we believe can benefit the broader community, such as Envoy Proxy, we share our innovations through open-source contributions.

As a member of the Observability team, your role encompasses the management and upkeep of our logging and metrics systems. You will ensure that all teams at Lyft are informed about the operational health of their services by monitoring system availability and taking a comprehensive approach to platform performance. Your responsibilities will include building software and platforms that automate infrastructure operations and management. By assessing and tracking our operations, you will identify opportunities for system enhancements, driving our platform's advancement. You will provide essential support to our partners, enabling them to develop robust, large-scale distributed systems.

The reliability of our infrastructure is crucial in empowering Lyft teams to deliver rich, highly available experiences to our customers, ensuring our transportation platform effectively connects people and places. As we expand our team, we are looking for experienced Infrastructure Engineers who can help maintain the essential and reliable service that transports millions daily. We seek individuals who bring innovative perspectives and enjoy collaborating with cross-functional teams to continuously enhance our products and services for our customers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze and maintain metrics from operating systems, control planes, and applications to aid in fault detection and performance optimization.
  • Enhance, develop, and maintain tools and systems that improve the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of our platform.
  • Assist engineering teams in establishing service-level objectives (SLOs) and provide the necessary tools to monitor and balance feature development speed with reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to improve Lyft's observability and meet developers' requirements, ensuring alignment with design and production readiness reviews, platform management, and capacity planning.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation by recording infrastructure operations processes and insights.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, respond to incidents, and support other teams in mitigating customer-impacting events.
Required Experience:
  • 3+ years of experience in software development, automation, and systems engineering.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Proficiency in writing production-ready code in one or more high-level programming languages, such as Go or Python.
  • Experience managing infrastructure in public cloud environments, such as AWS, with familiarity in Managed Services.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes and managing multi-cluster environments in production.
  • Experience with monitoring, alerting, and logging systems such as Prometheus, Grafana, Kibana, and Telegraph.
Benefits:
  • Comprehensive health and dental coverage options, along with life insurance and disability benefits.
  • Mental health support services.
  • Family-building benefits.
  • Access to a Health Care Savings Account.
  • In addition to observed holidays, team members receive 15 days of paid time off, with an additional day for each year of service.
  • 4 Floating Holidays each calendar year, prorated based on the date of hire.
  • 10 paid sick days annually, regardless of province.
  • 18 weeks of paid parental leave for biological, adoptive, and foster parents.

Lyft is committed to building a diverse workforce and believes in equal employment opportunities without discrimination. We strive for a healthy and safe workplace and prohibit harassment of any kind. Accommodations for individuals with disabilities will be provided upon request during the application and hiring process.

This position follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring team members to work in the office three days a week. Additionally, hybrid roles offer the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to four weeks each year.
