Position Overview: We are currently seeking a Senior Manager of Complex Accounting for our client, a prominent organization in Ville St-Laurent. This is a permanent role that offers the flexibility of three days of remote work each week.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Evaluate the accounting ramifications of intricate and atypical transactions, preparing necessary documentation and memos.
  2. Oversee complex accounting challenges, including leasing agreements, financial instruments, joint venture disposals, and business combinations, ensuring precise treatment and disclosure in financial statements.
  3. Guarantee adherence to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and other applicable accounting regulations across all global operations.
  4. Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements and accompanying notes for both internal and external stakeholders, including monthly and annual reports.
  5. Support the year-end closing process and conduct annual impairment assessments, collaborating closely with accounting teams in Canada and the US for accurate financial reporting.
  6. Stay informed about emerging accounting standards and evaluate their implications for the company's financial reporting and accounting policies.
  7. Identify opportunities to enhance financial reporting processes, strengthen controls, and boost efficiency within the accounting department.
  8. Work collaboratively with various departments as a strategic advisor on accounting and reporting issues to support business initiatives.
  9. Engage in tax planning, corporate cost allocation, and intercompany loan management with US entities.
  10. Coordinate with external firms on relevant taxation matters.
  11. Develop and conduct training sessions for the accounting team.
  12. Address other ad hoc requests from the Vice President of Accounting or Chief Financial Officer.
Candidate Profile:
  • Possession of a CPA designation is mandatory.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., CA, ACCA) are advantageous.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in complex accounting, particularly with a focus on IFRS standards.
  • Experience in drafting position papers on accounting issues is highly desirable.
  • Operational experience within a corporate setting is preferred.
  • Experience with a Big 4 accounting firm is strongly favored.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the capability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with a proven track record of managing projects and teams successfully.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while maintaining a commitment to deadlines and delivering high-quality outcomes.
