About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join Scotiabank's team as a Cloud Platform Engineer. As a key member of our cloud engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud platforms, services, and components to enable safe enterprise-wide use of cloud common functionality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cloud Platform Development: Develop and maintain cloud platforms, services, and components to enable safe enterprise-wide use of cloud common functionality.
  • Level 3 Support: Provide level 3 support for cloud-related issues and ensure timely resolution.
  • Software Development: Develop software and pipelines for enabling and automating provisioning and maintenance of cloud platforms and related components.
  • Code Design and Refactoring: Design, implement, and refactor code to ensure scalability, reliability, and high availability.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Participate in design discussions, collaborate with other engineers and architects, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure software, programs, and applications are developed and/or configured to meet high availability, integrity, and reliability requirements.
  • Task Estimation and Planning: Work with other engineers and architects to break down, scope, and estimate tasks.
  • Operational Excellence: Build and operate highly available and scalable software and infrastructure.
  • Cloud Platform Guidance: Support application teams on the use of cloud platform, providing guidance on design patterns, best practices, and security considerations.
  • Peer Review and Quality Control: Provide peer review and quality control on a daily basis.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering/mathematics discipline.
  • Cloud Experience: Enthusiasm for cloud transformation and cloud platform/components/services development.
  • Technical Skills: Strong development experience and breadth of language and framework experience (Java, Spring, NodeJS is a benefit).
  • Software Development Life Cycle: Full understanding of software development life cycle as well as related technologies.
  • Cloud Infrastructure and Networking: Understanding of cloud infrastructure and/or networking is required.
  • Cloud Development Experience: Experience developing and deploying cloud infrastructure is a strong benefit.
  • Database Expertise: Expertise in relational databases and experience in NoSQL databases is a benefit.
  • Software Architecture and Security: In-depth knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, and security considerations.
  • Cloud Platform Features and Capabilities: Expertise in cloud platform features and capabilities is a benefit.
  • Cloud Development Experience: Proven experience in cloud development (Microsoft Azure, Google GCP) is a benefit.
  • Self-Sufficiency and Communication: Self-sufficient, works under the supervision of a more senior engineer, and strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Attention to Detail and Quality: Attention to details, high standards for quality, and experience in writing and maintaining related documentation.
  • Canadian Financial Institutions Experience: Experience within Canadian financial institutions is a benefit.
