Role Overview

Canadian Blood Services is in search of a Regular Part-Time Transport Specialist (Material Handler) to enhance our dynamic Logistics team.

The Logistics team plays a crucial role in supporting Canadian Blood Services by implementing best practices to guarantee the secure transportation of personnel, donors, equipment, blood products, and supplies. Our Transport Specialists do more than just drive; you will also assist in preparing booths, tables, and other equipment to ensure mobile donor events are fully operational.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilizing your driving and transportation expertise, you will ensure that blood and blood products are transported safely and maintained at the correct temperature, prioritizing the safety of employees, donors, and volunteers.
  • Applying your knowledge of safe transportation protocols and keen attention to detail, you will perform pre-trip inspections to confirm that equipment is functioning correctly and complete all necessary documentation accurately.
  • Using your customer service abilities, you will support the collections team by welcoming and assisting donors with booking or rescheduling appointments as needed.
  • You will help establish systems and Wi-Fi connections for mobile events, leveraging your technological familiarity and willingness to learn new programs.
  • With your strong interpersonal and communication skills, you will collaborate with staff to transport and set up/dismantle equipment and supplies, including loading and unloading at donor center sites.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid Nova Scotia Class 2 driver's license and a clean commercial driving record.
  • A minimum of 24 months of verifiable professional driving experience as a commercial vehicle operator within the last three years.
  • Basic computer proficiency and the ability to learn new systems and software.
  • A willingness to understand procedures in a regulated environment.
  • Effective communication skills in English; proficiency in a second language is an asset.

Expectations
  • Shifts/hours are flexible to meet operational needs; shift lengths vary based on events at Canadian Blood Services fixed and mobile donor centers, including days, evenings, weekends, overnights, and statutory holidays.
  • No long-haul or cross-border driving is required.
  • Physical capability to load, unload, push, and carry heavy clinic equipment and supplies, including the ability to lift up to 23 kg (50 lbs.) and push/pull up to 136 kg (300 lbs.) on a wheeled platform.
