JOB OVERVIEW

We are in search of a strategic and results-driven compensation expert to join our Compensation team as a Lead Compensation Strategist. Reporting to the Director of Compensation & Benefits, you will oversee the strategic direction and administration of OPG's Compensation Programs by leading the Compensation Centre of Expertise (CoE).

Your role will involve providing strategic counsel to OPG's Management and Executive Leadership teams, HR Business Partners, and Line Managers, ensuring consistency, integrity, and fairness in our compensation practices. You will focus on continuous improvement and adherence to industry best practices while ensuring compliance with regulatory, legal, and collective agreement frameworks.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead and manage the Compensation CoE, which consists of a specialized team responsible for offering guidance and support to the business.
  • Provide facilitative leadership, motivating and coaching the team to achieve expected outcomes while ensuring their professional development.
  • Act as the subject matter expert in all compensation-related matters, staying informed about relevant trends, legislation, and issues affecting total rewards programs.
  • Influence the design and delivery of OPG's total rewards programs, assessing and implementing compensation changes as necessary.
  • Identify emerging challenges and opportunities within OPG's compensation programs, collaborating with stakeholders to develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with other Centres of Expertise (e.g., Labour Relations, HR Business Partners, Talent Management) and external consultants.
  • Oversee compensation processes and deliverables, including market survey participation, executive compensation analysis, and annual incentive award programs.
  • Prepare and deliver key communications and educational materials related to Compensation programs and processes.
  • Represent the company in various proceedings as the subject matter expert for compensation, collaborating with Labour Relations and legal counsel.
  • Participate in the development of bargaining agendas and provide support to the bargaining team.
  • Oversee the administration and maintenance of compensation IT systems, ensuring integration with existing platforms.
  • Manage relationships with third-party service providers, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.

EDUCATION

  • A degree from a university or college with relevant experience is required.
  • Professional certification in compensation is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for a strategic and experienced compensation professional with a background in designing and administering compensation programs in a regulated, unionized environment. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in managing compensation strategies and program delivery.
  • Strong leadership skills with at least 3 years of management experience.
  • Experience in a unionized organization with a multi-union presence.
  • A proven track record of delivering results in total rewards programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive relationships across various business units.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence outcomes.
  • Exceptional communication skills, particularly in writing and presenting complex information.
  • Project management and organizational skills to handle multiple priorities effectively.
  • A high level of integrity and sound professional judgment.
  • Experience with HRIS and compensation systems, particularly SAP and SuccessFactors.
