About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Recreation Therapist to join our team at Circle of Care. As a Recreation Therapist, you will contribute to the development and implementation of recreation programs for adults with frailties and impairments. Your primary responsibility will be to plan and conduct recreation activities that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

Recreation Facilities:

  • Ensure the safe and effective operation of Day Centre facilities.
  • Assist in the preparation and development of monthly calendars and letters.
  • Ensure policies and regulations are adhered to.
  • Monitor the use of recreation equipment and facilities.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure the safety and well-being of clients.

Recreation Programs Development:

  • Develop and implement evidence-based programs for clients.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make adjustments as needed.
  • Schedule programs, entertainment, students, and volunteers as required.
  • Orient and supervise volunteers and students as needed.

Inventory Control and Related Duties:

  • Oversee the purchase, planning, design, construction, and upkeep of recreation facilities and areas.
  • Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants.

Team Building and Leadership:

  • Participate in team initiatives and meetings.
  • Communicate and collaborate with team members to achieve departmental goals.
  • Build rapport with team members to ensure a high-performing team.

Risk, Health and Safety Management:

  • Identify and report health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Participate in health and safety processes and procedures.
  • Maintain a safe workplace environment.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Recreation Therapy or completion of two years of community college in Recreation Therapy.
  • Professional member in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO).
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certified.
  • U-First training an asset.
  • Experience working with frail and impaired elderly and their families.
  • Experience working with seniors who have Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
  • Experience in recreational programming for seniors.
  • Intermediate computer and writing skills.
  • Clear communication skills.
  • Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team.
