Position Overview: Environmental Resources Management (ERM) is seeking a Principal Consultant with expertise in social performance, political and country risk, stakeholder engagement, security and human rights, crisis management, and strategic communications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and project management expertise across various practice areas.
  • Adapt to rapidly changing legal, regulatory, and social expectations to deliver project management and senior technical guidance throughout all phases of major projects.
  • Advise clients on achieving strategic goals and growth objectives in collaboration with ERM.
  • Act as a company representative, playing a vital role in business development and securing new projects.
  • Build and maintain strong, enduring relationships with clients and internal teams.

Job Details: This is a full-time, permanent position offering a hybrid work model.

Project Delivery: Lead a diverse range of projects in sectors such as mining, oil and gas, power, infrastructure, and renewables. Expected activities include:

  • Political, social, and security risk advisory and management.
  • Conducting risk and impact assessments.
  • Social and human rights due diligence.
  • Policy and procedure development.
  • Strategic client advisory and capacity building.
  • Report writing and reviewing.

Project Management: Oversee multiple projects to ensure deliverables meet client expectations regarding scope, budget, schedule, and quality.

Business Development: Identify and develop new opportunities, prepare effective technical proposals, and actively lead in fostering client relationships to support new and repeat business.

Team Leadership: Manage performance, hire, retain, and mentor junior and mid-level consulting staff to enhance their technical skills, project experience, and decision-making capabilities.

Collaboration: Work with global ERM resources to strengthen relationships with key clients and expand ERM's market presence through exceptional technical delivery and business development support.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in engineering, economics, political science, resource management, public policy, or a related field; a Master’s degree is an asset.
  • Approximately 8+ years of relevant experience in progressively senior roles, including project management and oversight of team-based projects.
  • Previous consulting experience and international work exposure are advantageous.
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in additional languages (especially French or Spanish) is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and project management tools; a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is beneficial.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

Skills: High-level project management competence, extensive knowledge of risk management best practices, exceptional communication and technical writing skills, and a strong ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.

Demonstrated business acumen to recognize commercial opportunities and address business risks and challenges.
