This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to consolidate their skills in a specialty nursing unit at Surrey Memorial Hospital, located in Surrey, BC. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in a perinatal training program, which includes tuition for required courses, wages during full-time studies, and mandatory days.
Responsibilities- Assessment and Care Planning: Assess patients and collect information from various sources using skills of observation, communication, data review, and physical assessment. Make a nursing diagnosis of the patient's condition and determine whether the condition can be improved or resolved by an appropriate nursing intervention.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with patients and their families/caregivers in developing the care plan and encourage family participation in the development, implementation, and ongoing modification of the care plan. Establish a therapeutic relationship by demonstrating empathy, trust, and respect, advocating for the patient's rights to privacy, dignity, and access to information, and by ensuring the patient's choice and autonomy in decision making and care planning.
- Care Coordination and Discharge Planning: Participate in the care and discharge planning process for patients on admission by ensuring the care plan is established, implemented, and evaluated effectively, updating care plan in a timely manner, and intervening as appropriate, collaborating with the interprofessional care team to ensure comprehensive care planning and delivery, and collaborating and communicating with the Patient Care Coordinator on issues that will affect the care/discharge plan.
- Nursing Care and Education: Coordinate nursing care for the patient; set priorities, assign and delegate tasks to support staff, and make referrals to the interprofessional care team according to established protocols and practice standards. Teach patients and families/caregivers about illness prevention, health restoration, and health maintenance to help patients accomplish their health care goals.
- Documentation and Quality Improvement: Document assessments, nursing diagnosis, observations, interventions, patient/family responses, outcomes/evaluations, and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures. Participate in research and quality improvement activities by identifying patient care issues, collecting data, and identifying needs and recommendations for corrective action and changes to practices, procedures, or protocols.
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Completion of the applicable postgraduate specialty nursing course/program and/or willingness to complete the applicable postgraduate specialty nursing courses/program. Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
